Itinerary Highlights

Day 1: Welcome to Calgary

• Arrival in Calgary: Land at Calgary International Airport and transfer to your hotel.

• Evening Meet & Greet: Join your tour leader and fellow photographers for a warm welcome dinner. Discuss the itinerary, review photography goals, and get inspired for the adventure ahead.

• Rest: Overnight stay in Calgary.

Day 2: From Calgary to Canmore

• Morning Departure: After breakfast, begin your journey west toward the charming mountain town of Canmore.

• Photography Stops Along the Way: Capture scenic views of the foothills transitioning into the dramatic peaks of the Rockies.

• Golden Hour Shoot in Canmore: Arrive in time to photograph the iconic Three Sisters during the golden hour.

• Rest: Overnight stay in Canmore.

Day 3: Journey to Abraham Lake

• Morning Exploration: Early morning shoot followed by breakfast.

• Travel to Abraham Lake: Witness panoramic views as you drive through Kananaskis Country and along the Icefields Parkway.

• First Ice Bubble Shoot: Arrive at Abraham Lake to capture its famed ice bubbles and the surrounding landscape during sunset.

• Rest: Overnight stay near Abraham Lake.

Day 4: Ice Bubbles & Winter Wilderness

• Morning Golden Hour: Return to Abraham Lake for a serene shoot at dawn—experiment with capturing ice textures, reflections, and the rugged beauty of the Rockies.

• Daytime Exploration: Visit nearby frozen waterfalls, canyons, or trails, discovering hidden gems in this winter wonderland.

• Afternoon Lightroom Workshop: Gather indoors for a photo editing session, enhancing images from the past few days.

• Rest: Overnight stay near Abraham Lake.

Day 5: To Lake Louise & Yoho National Park

• Travel to Lake Louise: One of Canada’s most iconic destinations. Stop along the way for scenic views and photo ops.

• Lake Louise Magic: Capture the snow-draped beauty of Lake Louise with its turquoise waters frozen into a pristine winter canvas.

• Evening Arrival at Yoho National Park: Settle into accommodations near Yoho and enjoy a group dinner.

• Rest: Overnight stay near Yoho National Park.

Day 6: Yoho National Park & Winter Wonderland

• Emerald Lake Sunrise: Begin the day at Emerald Lake, photographing the tranquil beauty of its surroundings.

• Natural Bridge & Beyond: Visit these awe-inspiring locations, showcasing the park’s dramatic winter scenery.

• Evening Reflection: Gather with the group for a photo-sharing session, reliving the trip's highlights.

• Rest: Overnight stay near Yoho National Park.

Day 7: Farewell in Calgary

• Morning Return: Journey back to Calgary, stopping for a few last photo opportunities along the way.

• Farewell Lunch: Share final moments with the group, exchanging contact information and memories.

• Departure: Head to the airport for your onward journey or extend your stay to explore Calgary.

How challenging will the hiking be? PLEASE READ, IMPORTANT!

Hiking? Who said anything about hiking? Yes, we will be walking to some locations. The distances are typically no more than 1 km or so. However, all locations will require a walk, including hills. If you have mobility problems, this is probably not your trip. 

What camera gear should I bring?

The following are some recommendations. Generally, we will be focusing primarily on landscape photography but may encounter some wildlife shooting opportunities. Ideally, since we will be walking throughout the day and carrying our gear, equipment should be kept to a minimum. Here is a list of what we typically carry in the field. A more detailed "what to bring" list will be sent to you before the workshop. If you shoot wildlife and own or use a considerable lens, you are welcome to bring it.

Camera Equipment:

• Tripod w/geared or ball head

• Camera backpack

• Camera body

• 14-24mm lens

• 24-120mm lens

• 70-200mm lens

• Various ND filters/polarizers/holders for all lenses

• Two extra batteries

• Lens pen/lens cloth

• lens shade

Other items that should make your day more comfortable in the area. Either worn or put in your pack for the day.

• Rubber boots or waterproof hiking boots

• Long pants

• Brimmed hat

• Warm jacket

• Rain jacket

• Snack bars/lunch/something to drink

• Headlamp/flashlight

• Sunglasses
