Blue Forest
Blue Forest
An image that I made in the winter of 2018 whilst on a group trip with photographers Brent Henderson, Gavin Hardcastle, Nick Page and Thomas Heaton. We had set off for the day to photograph the infamous methane bubbles that are frozen in time every winter on Abraham Lake. The bubbles are a fascinating and trendy subject to photograph on the lake. So much so that photographers travel from all over the world to photograph them. This is probably going to come off as being pretentious but as neat as the bubble look, they have been photographed to death and in many ways hard to photograph personally unique and different way. Sound a bit grumpy? It was on this trip that I earned the name ‘uncle grumpy’ for my disdain of the obvious. If it’s been photographed a million times before I have a hard time getting excited about myself photographing it. This image was a result of my wondering off and going my own thing, something away from the obvious. What I really enjoy about this scene is the reflected light from snow on the ground casting some unique and unusual light on the trunk of the tree. It almost looks like a negative or x-ray of the scene.
