When the light is less than ideal, I’ll often try to look for subjects that are in the shade. In this scene, I had the added advantage of having not only a lovely group of trees surrounded by water but also reflecting some wonderful light from the opposite shoreline. For this photograph, I also used a neutral density filter to lengthen the shutter speed to 20sec to smooth out the moving water.
