In the autumn of 2020, my good friend Jeremy Jackson and I made a trip to the Canadian Rockies. Our somewhat vague plan was to head up to Jasper National Park to canoe some of Maligne lake and camp along the shoreline. As we inched closer to Jasper, it became clear that the cold, wet and windy weather wouldn't be conducive to a photo-canoe trip. We quickly changed plans and made our way a little further south to Banff National Park. Upon arriving in Banff, we had the light bulb idea to check out Abraham Lake, just beyond the park's northeastern boundary. We were hoping to find some autumn colour around that area. When we arrived at Abraham Lake and the Kootenay Plains, we were entranced with the incredible autumn colour and the flooded lake surrounding many of the Aspen trees in that area. 'Aspen' is the culmination of that somewhat impromptu photo trip and what ended up being one of my most successful photography trips ever.
Antarctica ($14.99)
In 2008, my partner Karin and I travelled to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island, and the Antarctic Peninsula. It was my first visit to the area, and it didn't disappoint. This adventure was a life-changing experience. The raw beauty and seemingly abundant wildlife opened my eyes to what true wilderness should be. As a result, I swore that I would return one day.
Twelve years later, my wish came true, and in 2022, photographer Nigel Danson invited me to a group workshop on the Antarctic Peninsula. On the first adventure, I was enamoured with the wildlife and, as a result, took hundreds of photographs of birds and mammals. On the second trip, I decided to concentrate more on the landscape and brought a medium-format camera to the Peninsula to capture the magnificent landscape.
'Antarctica' results from a culmination of photographs taken on these two independent adventures to the Antarctic Peninsula.
